Need a few guilt-free hours of childcare? 

Check out our Curious Cubs Discovery Club! Not only will your child be well taken care of; they will be busy doing lots of age-appropriate S.T.E.A.M. activities and experiments! All of the classes are tailored to the group for the optimal amount of fun and learning!

🎉 Ages: 7 and under (non-potty trained children are welcome)

What’s Included:

2 1/2 hours of drop-off care to spend how you would like.

75 minutes of age-appropriate STEM activities & experiments for the kids

Plus 75 minutes of supervised open play (small snack included).

Each class focuses on a few of the North Carolina Science Standards that your child will be learning in school later on. This is a fun and stress-free way for them to be exposed to the concepts and prepare them without them even realizing they are learning! 

Karla Brey, also the owner of Slither Celebrations, will be performing the classes, she has a Bachelors of Science in Education with a focus in Elementary Science. She has been working in animal and science education for over 8 years and worked in preschool education for her first 2 years in the workforce.

Winter Session

March 1st, March 22nd and April 12th

For our winter events we will be focusing on why mammals have fur, what other animals do to stay warm and all about weather!
We will be exploring the arctic tundra to make our very own snow, playing games that help us identify different animals and even meeting a few LIVE ones!

The NC Standards we focus on:

EX.2.L.1.1 Identify physical characteristics in a variety of animals.

EX.2.L.1.2 Compare a variety of animals to determine how they are alike and different.

ESS2.1 Understand patterns of weather and factors that affect weather.

Spring Session

May 17th, June 21st, July 19th

For our spring events we will be investigating the process of Metamorphosis and seeing how different insects go through it! We we will be exploring different life cycles and digging through the soil to unearth a few LIVE insects! In one of our events the kids will get to plant and take home their very own lima plant! We will meet some animals who eat insects and help out the farmers who plant our food. There may also be a sweet treat we make in the classroom that helps us really appreciate our dairy farmers!

Standards we will focus on:

LS.2.1 Understand animal life cycles.

LS.3.2 Understand how plant structures aid in survival.

Summer Session

August 2nd, August 23rd, September 13th

For our summer events we will be diving deep into the ocean to explore everyone’s favorite summer destination.. The beach! We will get to touch and observe real ancient fossils, preserved sea animals and pan for our very own fossils to take home! We will be traveling to Hawaii and talking about volcanos and how they are formed; we may even get to set off our very own volcanos in the classroom! 

Standards we will focus on:

ESS.3.2 Understand the structures of the Earth’s surface using models.

LS.4.2 Understand the use of fossils as evidence of the history of Earth and its changing life forms.

Fall Session

October 11th, November 15th, December 13th

For our Fall events we will be creating our own colorful Camp fires, reading ghost stories with real ghosts in the classroom and creating a gooey, S’mores like slime to take home! Taking the information we learn about solids, liquids and gasses we will also be sending up rockets to view some creepy aliens and making some wiggly alien-like creatures using a bit of chemistry!

Standards we will focus on: 

PS.2.1 Understand properties of solids and liquids and the changes they undergo.

FAQ'S

No, your child does not need to be potty trained, however please plan on supplying diapers and wipes as well as an additional change of clothing for children who are still in the training phase.

Please plan on packing a full change of clothes, diapers and wipes (for non-potty trained children) and a water bottle. Small snacks are provided. However, feel free to pack a snack of your choosing. (As we know some children may need special accommodations or are just generally picky eaters).

The Curious Cubs Discovery Club is best suited for children ages 2-6 years old.
